Female, 40s – 50s. Madame Gurmyzhsky’s housekeeper.
Neschastlivtsev:
[Neschastlivtsev means "unhappiness" or "luckless" in Russian]. Male, 35. A traveling actor, a tragedian.
Schastlivstev (Arkady):
[Means "happiness" or "lucky" in Russian]. Male, 40s. A traveling actor, a comedian.
Pyotr:
Male, 20s. A lumberjack. Working class, tragic, romantic and vulnerable, but has a tough exterior.
Milonov (Yevgeny Apollonych):
Male, 45. A wealthy neighbor, slicked back hair, exquisitely dressed, wears a pink necktie.
Vosmibratov (Ivan Petrovich):
Male, 40 – 50. A timber merchant. Physically large. Criticizes his son, Pyotr, for not being a more desirable match.
The following roles have been CAST. Actors auditioning may be considered for possible replacements if any should be necessary.
Madame Gurmyzhsky (Raisa Pavlovna Gurmyzhskaya):
Female, 50s – 60s. A widow, and wealthy landowner. She dresses plainly, almost in mourning, and always has a workbox in her hand.
Aksyusha (Aksinya Danilovna):
Female, 20s. Raisa's distant relative, a poor girl dressed in neat but cheap clothing not much better than a housemaid.
Bulanov (Aleksei Sergeevich):
Male, 20s. A young man who has failed to finish the gymnasium. Working class, masculine.
Bodaev (Uar Kirilych):
Male, 60s. Another wealthy neighbor, a retired cavalry officer, short grey hair, a large moustache and sideburns, wears a close-buttoned black frock coat, decorated with military crosses and medals, uses a crutch, is slightly deaf.
