Diary of a Teenage Girl – EPA’s – Monday 1/25
Producer: Aaron Louis in association with The Essentials and New Georges
Seasonal Showcase $2,000 project stipend.
Stage Adaptation: Marielle Heller (based on the graphic novel by Phoebe Gloeckner)
Directors: Sarah Cameron Sunde and Rachel Eckerling
Casting: Paul Davis, Calleri Casting
1st rehearsal: February 15, 2010. Runs March 15 – April 12 at the 3LD Art & Technology Center.
Seeking (all roles available unless otherwise specified):
Monroe: Man, 40ish. A big child, Monroe is a product of the 70’s. Wandering in his life; drinks too much; wants more, but is stuck. Handsome and goofy at the same time. Tall. Can, at the turn of the dime, be adorable and then menacing. Very sexually attracted to Minnie, despite his age.
Charlotte: Woman, 40ish. Was quite a “piece” in her time. Has lived, and wears her experiences on her face. Still looks good, but won't in a few years. An alcoholic and a kind of swinger. Charlotte is the 1970’s. Neglectful of her daughters, but still warm. She is not a cliché, and has her vulnerable side too. Jealous of her 15-year-old daughter and constantly compares herself to her.
Kimmie: Girl, age 16 (seeking actress 18+). Advanced for her age. The friend who gets you into trouble. Farrah Fawcett hairdo ... wears tall platforms. One of those messed-up kids who manages to get straight A's.
Pascal: Man, 45. Nerdy, with a slightly sexy side. A know-it-all science guy, with a logic for everything. For most of the play he seems like he has potential parenting skills, and we need to believe he is good and safe. But his moral code is fuzzy. Sleeps with his daughter's best friend, and asks her not to get too puritanical about the whole thing. He's filled with hot air.
Minnie: CAST. Auditioning performers will be considered as possible replacements, should any become necessary. Girl, age 15 (to be played by an actress 18+). Our protagonist, and a very realistically depicted teenager, with all the confidence and insecurity that comes with that. The entire play functions as Minnie’s diary. The audience is in her head, and she is the conductor of the reality of the play. She's an artist, and is figuring out how to express herself. Open and raw inside, strong and articulate on the outside.
