20-minute English language DVD sold by subscription.
The DVD will be released by Benesse, one of Japan's premiere provider of educational DVDs (www.benesse.co.jp/english/). The audience is 1st graders (age 6-7 years old). This DVD shows children that English is a global language that enables people from different cultures to communicate to each other. The main theme is "music." We're shooting in New York City - one of the world's most multi-cultural cities - to show people from all over the world communicating together through music, and using English.

Girl and her parent go on a search for 3 different kinds of music, and bring these different musicians together to play music in a multi-cultural jam session.

Shoot: 3-day shoot in mid-March 2010

Child work permit: We will be shooting mostly documentary style (the child playing music, singing and dancing), but they will also be performing scenes with scripted lines; so the child will need a work permit and blocked trust account, in accordance with NY State law.

Main casting:
1) 6-8 years old girl - any ethnicity other than Caucasian or East Asian (Latina, African American, or Native American would be ideal) - lively and outgoing personality, who plays a musical instrument (not a classical instrument like piano or harp, but something more "pop" like drums, guitar, violin etc.) and can sing and dance (tap, hiphop, etc.)

2) Girl's parent (mother or father) - lively and outgoing personality, who plays a musical instrument and/or can sing and dance

Compensation: Compensation: $200 per day for child; additional for the parent (negotiable) .
